Author Guidelines

Papers should be submitted for blind review as a single Word file, meaning any information identifying the author must be removed before submission. The Word file should contain an abstract of 100-150 words, list no more than five (5) keywords, and provide a funding statement if applicable.

All submissions should include the appropriate sections typically included in academic literature, including a title page (without author identifying information), literature review, theoretical framework, method or process of analysis used, and analysis results. Wherever appropriate, the use of copyright-cleared images is encouraged. Discussion should tie the analysis back to the literature review and emphasize why the research has extended knowledge in strategic communication and is important enough to merit publication. References and appendix (if any), as well as any acknowledgments such as funding organizations, should be included at the end of the manuscript.

A second Word file should be submitted, including the title page with the author(s) ’s name(s), affiliation, identifying and contact information. Contact information should include mail, email, and phone number(s). All co-authors should be listed with email addresses and affiliations following the contact author’s information. The order of authors should be listed correctly after the title of the manuscript since the contact author may not be the first author. Please include a brief bio of each author on a second page to accompany the title page. Please include ORCiDs and social media handles (Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn) where available.

Word Limits

A typical paper for this journal should not exceed 10,000 words. The word limit does not include the abstract, references, appendix, or acknowledgments.

Copyrighted Material

Authors are responsible for clearing copyright on all photos, use of song lyrics, other text, graphics, and figures. A copy of a copyright clearance form is available upon request.

Style Guidelines

This journal follows the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). A simple keyword search will reveal multiple websites that summarize and illustrate the correct APA format.

Please use the American spelling style consistently throughout your manuscript.

Please use double quotation marks, except where “a quotation is ‘within’ a quotation.” Please note that long quotations (40 or more words) should be in proper block quote format.

Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th ed.) or your digital assistant set to American English should be consulted for spelling. Using a grammar assistant such as Grammarly is encouraged but should be relied on with caution as many scholarly constructions may fall outside of current levels of software accuracy.

File Format

Papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word format only.

Graphics, Tables, and Figures

Graphics and figures should be incorporated into the text where appropriate without using a text box. Please format all graphics, tables, and figures consistent with the current APA format.

References

Please format all references consistent with the current APA format. Plenty of reference guides may be found online for more specifics and examples.

Video Abstract

All authors whose papers are selected for publication will be asked for a 1– to 3-minute video abstract that can be posted to promote your article. Information will be provided upon acceptance.

Other Specifics

  1. Disclosure statement. Please include if your research had or could result in personal financial or other benefits.
  2. Biographical note. The biographical note should include the highest degree earned, university, year, current job affiliation, and a short description of your research interests.  For example, Moriah Exeter (Ph.D., University of Casablanca, 2020) is a research associate at the University of the Nations. Her research interests include analysis of Mauritian sega music, the architecture of the Aztecs, and the rhetoric of minor political parties in developing nations.
  3. Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale, and 300 dpi for color, at the correct size). Figures should be inserted into a Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) file by the author and be reasonably sized in proportion to the paper.
  4. The authors may submit tables to present new information or provide information in an organized fashion. Tables should be able to be interpreted clearly based on the title, table labels, and accompanying notes under the table without relying on reading the text.

Submitting Your Paper

All author submissions to this journal should use the submission link shown below. The attached file for review should be labeled with the word “blinded” followed by the beginning of the manuscript title (first five or more words). An example is “blinded state of the union metaphors.docx” A separate title page containing all author contact information should also be attached with a similar title starting with the author’s name “Elijah Cummings title page state of the union metaphors.docx.” You will receive an email, usually within 72 hours, confirming receipt.

Publication Charges

There is no initial submission fee; however, publication fees are charged based on the length of the paper at $15 US per page. The length is based on the typeset length in the page proof version rather than the submitted manuscript page length. For example, a 15-page published manuscript costs $225 US for publication.

Publication fees cover the specific article costs of open access on the web, typesetting and proofreading services, registration with a DOI number, checking manuscripts for plagiarism, and other editorial costs.

Copyright Options

Unlike some journals and publishers who require you to sign over the copyright to your work, you maintain ownership of the copyright to your research. Still, you agree to release it for a non-exclusive right to publish the authoritative version of your article on the Global Strategic Communication webpage and associated platforms and in ancillary forms through which Global Strategic Communication and associated platforms might make it available. Creative Commons licenses are the standard at Global Strategic Communication. Various forms of these licenses enable you to grant permission for anyone to republish or allow you to restrict the use of portions of your work for commercial or other purposes without your further consent.

Global Strategic Communication and associated platforms do not handle negotiations with others who request to use your material for subsequent publications, so authors must handle communication on all restrictions for use.

Please submit your “blinded” file through this submission link: https://www.cognitoforms.com/GlobalStrategicCommunications/JournalSubmission.
